Salvatore Paul Erna Jr., commonly known as Sully Erna, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and actor. He was born on February 7, 1968, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Erna gained fame as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the rock band, Godsmack. Growing up in a musical environment, Erna developed a passion for music at a young age. He started playing drums at the age of three and later learned to play guitar and piano. His early influences included The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Aerosmith. Erna's musical journey began in the late 1980s when he formed his first band, The Strip Club Band. In 1995, Erna founded Godsmack, a hard rock band that quickly gained popularity with their self-titled debut album in 1998. The album included hit singles like "Whatever" and "Voodoo," propelling the band to international success. Erna's powerful vocals and intense stage presence contributed to the success and recognition of Godsmack. Aside from his work with Godsmack, Erna has also pursued a solo career, releasing his debut solo album, "Avalon," in 2010. Known for his diverse musical influences, Erna's solo work blends elements of rock, alternative, and world music.
